NAFDAC Advisory Inspection of Oyigis Farms

Nugata Consults Ltd works with operators in the farm-to-table continuum of the food value chain offering technical support and assistance in implementing Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) to enable them meet national and international standards and regulatory requirements.
Nugata Consults is currently working with Oyigis Farms, a small scale cassava farm located in the rain forest agricultural zone of Nigeria in Oyo State, to institutionalize best practices in farming and processing. Oyigis Farms started with cassava farming and is now ready for value addition through processing and packaging into Oyigis Farms Garri for registration with the National Agency for Food & Drug Administration & Control (NAFDAC) and sale to consumers.
As part of the registration process for the cassava product (garri), Oyigis Farms decided to start with the voluntary NAFDAC Advisory Inspection which was facilitated by Nugata Consults Ltd and conducted on the 12th of October 2017. The advisory inspection started with an entry meeting by the NAFDAC inspectors with the Managing Director of Oyigis Farms and the MD/Lead Consultant of Nugata Consults Ltd after which inspection of the production facility commenced. The inspectors went through the garri production flow diagram and the facility and made their observations and recommendations for improvement. The inspection was concluded with a closing meeting during which the NAFDAC inspectors recapped the observations and recommendations. The company is expected to return to NAFDAC to proceed to the next stage i.e. production inspection, after implementing the recommendations. The company is also expected to maintain Good Agricultural Practice (GAP), Good Hygienic Practice (GHP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
The inspection was professionally conducted to the satisfaction of Oyigis Farms and Nugata Consults Ltd. The Managing Director of Oyigis Farms noted all the suggestions and recommendations to be addressed before the Production Inspection and highly commended the NAFDAC inspection team.
